Melissa Wright is thrilled to continue as the Director of Choirs at North for the fourth year. This will be Ms. Wright’s 7th year teaching in RISD. Prior to teaching at North, she was the Assistant Director at Westwood Junior High for two years, and taught elementary music at Richland Elementary School. Under her direction, her choirs have consistently earned sweepstakes at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading competition and received high ratings at festivals. In 2019, Ms. Wright was awarded outstanding Junior High Choral Director by her colleagues in the RISD Fine Arts community. Ms. Wright is a product of RISD and was a graduate of Richardson High School in 2011. While at RHS, she was active in choir and was first chair in the 2011 Texas All State Choir. Ms. Wright attended the University of Texas in Austin, majoring in Choral Music Education. During her time at UT, Ms. Wright performed with Chamber Singers, Longhorn Singers, and Concert Chorale. In 2014, Ms. Wright participated in the Disney College Program where she was a character performer, and became “good friends” with Elsa. Ms. Wright is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Choral Directors Association. In her spare time, Ms. Wright loves to read, travel, and eat delicious food!
